Pollution In India- Govt pushing the wrong button

The National Green Tribunal's order banning the registration of diesel vehicles in the national capital is like straw in the hay stack. Its again attacking the soft target that is automotive manufacturers who have spent millions in development of Diesel engines.

The contribution to pollution by diesel vehicls will not be more than 5% infact the green gas emission is higher in petrol vehicle. We have countries like JAPAN , Europe and USA who use more cars and trucks and have clearer sky because the major culprit  for pollution and the haze we see in our cities is due to non auto emission and its an area which Government cant control.

No city in India has a garbage disposal system. You will find that the garbage is collected in front of houses and burnt daily so that the garbage doesnt have to be transported and managed. I live in Pune and especially in a indstrial area called chikhali. For last 15 years i have been fighting battle with the scrap yard dealers who burn rubber plastic, medicine strips, copper cables to retrieve copper, tyres and have made complaint till the PMO office and local pollution atuthorities but no one cares. The stench is so bad that it chokes my throat. There were powder coating plants of politicians which would emit dangerous fumes but no one dare touch them. I have stopped walking in morning as its unhealthy wit all the smoke and dirty smell around. Its healthier to stay in house with close windows.

The problem is India is not sensitive to burning. You can burn anything any where. When you travel through sugar cane farms they put full farm to fire after the crops have been cut.
Tons of smoke go every day into air . The smoke starts in morning with villagers burning coal and wood to heat water. and it ends with muniscipal corporations burning the waste.

Dont forget the factories which have chimney of the size of cigarette and they may be having ISO14000 certification. I live opposite to Indias largest truck maker and every weekly off we had paint smell in our locality as every off the painting skids were being burnt to remove the paint deposited on the skids. When I complained the HR guy came home justifying that his nose didnt smell and how come I was getting the smell.

So as we know we are famous for short term knee jerk solutions, we will attack the softest target and the auto association will plea the Government and some things will pass hand and again the circle will be completed.

Instead of banning new cars why not ban all the trucks and tempos in Delhi which run on diesel and the charcoal powder instead of exhaust from the silencer. You know why because the owners of these businesses are linked to Politicians directly or indirectly.
